Getting Creative This Summer

Lately, I’m the girl who loves a good DIY. I think I’ve always been that way, always wanting to create things or DIY things. We recently built raised garden beds, and I decided to make my own garden steaks to label our vegetables.

After scouring Pinterest for some inspiration, I found some super, simple garden stakes by In Honor of Design and decided to create my own from that post.

Therefore, all the credit for these adorable garden stakes goes to her, but here is my spin on how to make garden stakes simple and fast.

What You Will Need

  • White Spray Paint
  • Garden Plant Stakes 18″
  • Bakeable Polymer Clay
  • Mini Alphabet Stamps
  • Rolling Pin
  • Small Round Object to Cut Circles with

All of these supplies I purchased from our local Hobby Lobby and Home Depot. However, you can also easily find these items on Amazon, which I will provide links to, above.

First, start off by spray painting your garden steaks white or whatever color you’ve chosen. You will have to flip them and put another coat on to completely coat the entire stakes.

While the stakes are drying, you can begin making your clay ornament labels.

This part is super easy! You might have to warm your clay in your hands for a bit, to get it to mold.

After, it has been warmed up you can begin rolling it out about an 1/8in thick, using your round object to cut the circles. I used a liquid medicine cup.

Next, you will use your stamps to stamp out the labels, and also make sure to make holes in each circle to thread onto the stake. I simply used the stake itself to create the right diameter for the hole.

Finally, bake the clay labels in the oven at 230 degrees for 30min, allowing them to cool afterwards. Once your stakes are dry, bend down the hook to create a drop down effect, which will dangle your clay ornament label.
