Minimalist Breastfeeding Essentials: The Basics You’ll Need

In this post I’m going to share with you my all time favorite breastfeeding essentials, from a minimalist moms perspective.

Minimalist Breastfeeding Essentials

Minimalist Breastfeeding Essentials

The past two years I have been exclusively breastfeeding babies back to back with a small break in between. I have definitely learned what is essential and helpful and what is not. Realizing, what works best in certain situations, and what makes me feel comfortable, has made me limit and compile what exactly I think is necessary. So I hope you find this post on my minimalist breastfeeding essentials helpful. As well as, gives you some guidance in compiling your list of needs for breastfeeding your little one.

1. Nursing Cover

Having a nursing cover has been probably my most used essential from the start. I tend to be a more modest breastfeeding mom. I find that having this style of nursing cover has saved me heeps of embarrassment when it comes to breastfeeding a wriggly, curious baby. Some moms tend to be a little less shy and no shame in their game. You have to find what works best for you, and go for that. For me, its this nursing cover, it becomes my best friend every time!

2. Nursing Friendly Tank Tops

Finding the perfect nursing friendly tank top has been a challenge for me. I personally don’t like the ones you have to unclasp, I find those to be one more thing I have to do before popping the boob in the baby’s mouth. I recently discovered these amazing tank tops from Duluth Trading Company, and now they are my all time favorite! These scoop neck stretch style ones, have been the easiest to pull down and nurse in.

3. Nursing Friendly Sports Bras

I have found that basic, stretchy sports bras work best for nursing 24/7. They are the most comfortable and still give a lot of support when the “ladies” are feeling more weighed down than usual. Any basic scoop neck sports bra will do, however these on Amazon are made exactly for nursing and look super comfortable as well.

4. Nursing Pads (my number one minimalist breastfeeding essential)

Owning a nice set of reusable nursing pads, will save you lots of money in the long run from having to buy boxes of disposable nursing pads. I learned quickly, that unwrapping and sticking disposable nursing pads in everytime I nursed, got old real fast. Having some washable nursing pads on hand for breastfeeding will help a ton especially in the newborn phase. These are probably my number one must have when it comes to my minimalist breastfeeding essentials and I know they will be for you as well!

5. Haaka (the all time minimalist breastfeeding essential)

This product will change your life. I haven’t met one mom who has ever hated this thing. Purchasing a Haaka for your minimalist breastfeeding essentials list, is definately a must have! This little product is the holy grail of minimalist breast pumps. You just suction it to the boob your not nursing on and it will catch all the wasted milk from your let down. This product has amazingly helped me build a freezer stash of breastmilk this time around, without having to pump milk.

6. Nipple Balm

Using an organic nipple balm in those first few months of breastfeeing, will save your nipples from getting dry and cracked. I personally haven’t suffered from this with either of my babies. I trully believe its because I religiously apply a safe organic nipple balm before and after nursing. This one on Amazon I’ve heard really great things about, and has great, clean ingredients. You can also simply use organic coconut oil.

7. Cloth Diaper Prefolds/Spit Up Rags

This may seem a bit odd, and something no one really talks about in my opinion. But I personally don’t like to sleep in nursing bras, or any type of bra for that matter. I have learned that having some type of rag to place over my boob in the middle of the night, while having a let down has saved us from waking up to wet, milk soaked sheets. I have recently been using a basic cloth daiper prefold from our stash, and they have worked great!

Well those are all of my minimalist breastfeeding essentials, I hope this post was helpful to you. Be sure to check out my previous post here. Also, be sure to join my Cozy Minimalist Community down below to stay up to date on all my latest content.
