In this post, I am sharing with you an easy tutorial on how to make a linen tea towel. Surprisingly, one of the easiest sewing projects for a new beginner sewer. You’ll love how quick and simple this little project is!

Why You’ll Love This Easy Tutorial on How to Make a Linen Tea Towel

Unfortunately, sewing can be quite daunting in the beginning as a newby sewer, but I’m here to tell you that this tutorial will be the easiest one yet. With just a small piece of linen, some sewing thread, and a few other tools, you will have this sewing project whipped up in under an hour.

It will be a sewing project you keep coming back to and will want to create many of to keep in your kitchen stash of tea towels.

Tips for Sewing a Linen Tea Towel

  • It might help to research how to sew a Mitered Corner when making this linen tea towel. I will provide photos of how I made mine.
  • These days it can be hard to find fabric nontheless linen fabric. I found mine on Amazon here.
  • Also, pre-washing and drying your linen/fabric is a must to get all the pre-shrinking out.
  • You will need to heat up an iron to have ready to start pressing seams and ironing your fabric.

How to Make a Linen Tea Towel

Step 1: Begin by washing and drying your fabric. Once your fabric is dry you’ll need to press it with a hot iron until all the wrinkles are out.

Step 2: Decide how big of a tea towel you would like. I found one of my favorite dish towels and used that as a size pattern for my tea towel and then added an extra inch for seam allowance. My measurements are 36in x 20in. Then cut out your desired size tea towel or use the measurements I provided, measuring and cutting with those dimensions.

Step 3: Take your cut out piece of fabric over to your ironing station and begin pressing under a 1/2 inch, then folding that over and pressing under another 1/2 inch. Pin your seam allowance in place.

Step 4: Once you’ve pressed under your seams, you’ll make the Mitered Corner on all four corners.

Step 5: Lastly, begin sewing your seams. I used the edge of my presser foot as my guide for sewing.
