5 Books That Make Me a Better Homemaker
Homemaking is a beautiful calling for a woman. It requires a lot from day to day, week to week, year to year, etc… I am a stay at home, homeschooling mama to four almost five kiddos. There is a lot to manage in our home and keep up with. So I am very familiar with what homemaking looks like or can look like.
Therefore, reading has become a way I find encouragement and inspiration in my daily tasks. Which can feel very mudane and repetitive most of the time, and I believe there are many amazing women who have gone before us and learned so much in this field of being a homemaker.

Simplified Organization Learn to Love What Must Be Done by Mystie Winkler is one of those books that you read and realize you’ve never heard these things before. Or at least for me it was like someone sat me down and corrected my behavior in such a positive and encouraging way.
This book teaches you how to learn to love homemaking tasks, learn to find good habits in taking care of laundry, dishes, sweeping, etc… Every wife or caretaker of a home should read this book.
Mystie does such a beautiful job in relaying her experience and what she learned from the beginning of her homemaking, journey to now.
The Summa Domestica Order and Wonder in Family Life Series by Layla Lawler

Layla Lawler is an expert when it comes to finding solutions to homemaking, homeschooling, motherhood, and so much more. All three volumes of The Summa Domestica contain her life experiences as a mother to seven children.

The Summa Domestica Volume 1 discusses Home Culture and what that can and should look like. I gained so much inspiration and tips for aplication to our home life. Each chapter is generally short and easy to read. When I find I’m in a slump in certain areas of homemaking, I love to flip through the index and find a topic that will help refresh my homemaking soul.

The Summa Domestica Volume 2 discusses Education and has so many wonderul tips on homeschooling and home life implementing education. Layla has lived and learned so much, she has generously shared so much of her wisdom and common sense with us.

The Summa Domestica Volume 3 is all about Housekeeping. It is honestly my favorite volume. She breaks down certain tasks and discusses how to tackle cleaning efficiently. She also shares so many wonderful old fashioned cleaning hacks and tips for cleaning certain areas of your home in an effective way.
Mother Culture by Karen Andreola

Every homemaker needs to learn about Mother Culture. It is a wonderful concept Karen Andreola has displayed beautifully in her book Mother Culture. I devoured each chapter and gained so much insight as to the importance of keeping a Mother Culture basket and “set aside time” for cultivating my Mother Culture. I think having a good reading life can inspire and motivate a mother and homemaker in so many ways.
Conclusion | 5 Books That Make Me a Better Homemaker

In conclusion, homemaking is a beautiful calling for a woman. C.S. Lewis has a quote that says:
“The homemaker has the ultimate career. All other
careers exist for one purpose only – and that is to support the ultimate
career. “
— C.S. Lewis
This quote is a message I remind myself when I’m cleaning another room, or washing another load of laundry, or scrubbing another dirty dish, and it begins to feel monotonous. I aim to find encouragement and inspiration in good, rich books when I’m feeling unmotivated.
I hope you will find that same encouragement in these 5 books that make me a better homemaker.
