Homeschooling can be very daunting and hard. As a mother to almost five children, I am learning how to homeschool multiple children at once, and it is no cake walk.
Personally, I glean so much knowledge and encouragement from reading, so here are 5 books that make me a better homeschool mom. These books have given me a new drive for teaching my children.
There are so many little nuggets of wisdom and motivation in each of them. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have.
Home Education By Charlotte Mason

Home Education by Charlotte Mason, was probably the very first book I read on homeschooling. Charlotte, being the real OG of homeschooling way back in the day, gives so much wisdom and insight into what the average six year old should be required to learn but also the realities of how six year olds are and what their attention spans can handle. This book gave me so much insight and understanding into getting children outside and letting them be children. Not forcing curriculum down their throats but letting them learn at their own pace.
Mother Culture By Karen Andreola

Every homeschooling mom needs to learn about Mother Culture. It is a wonderful concept Karen Andreola has displayed beautifully in her book Mother Culture. I devoured each chapter and gained so much insight as to the importance of keeping a Mother Culture basket and “set aside time” for cultivating my Mother Culture. I think having a good reading life can inspire and motivate a mother and homeschooling mom in so many ways.
Honey For a Child’s Heart by Gladys Hunt

Honey For a Child’s Heart was a book I devoured. It is written by an experienced homeschool mom who believes about the importance of a reading life for children. This book was a gem to my homeschool mom soul. It gave me so much inspiration and encouragement for reading aloud to my children and why that is important. She also provides multiple chapters in the back of the book full of reading book lists, organized by age and stage of reading level. I still flip back through those and look for good books to read to the kids or hunt for at thrift stores.
Awaking Wonder By Sally Clarkson

Awaking Wonder is such a beautiful testament of Sally’s early years of homeschooling her four children. She has an inspiring heart for teaching her children truth, goodness, and beauty. I could probably re-read this several times and still get more out of it. It is a deep and thought provoking book on awaking the wonder that is within each of our children and what that looked like for her as a homeschooling mother of four. She brings to light the many differences each of her children have, and how she navigated teaching them and bringing the beauty of learning to their everyday life.
The Summa Domestica Volume 2 By Leila Lawler

The Summa Domestica Volume 2 discusses Education and has so many wonderul tips on homeschooling and home life implementing education. Leila has lived and learned so much as a homeschooling mother to 7, she has generously shared so much of her wisdom and common sense with us.
