Minimalist Baby Essentials: The Basics You’ll Need

In this post I’m going to share with you my top minimalist baby essentials. These are the basics you’ll need to keep your baby registry simple, and clutter free.

Minimalist Baby Essentials

After, having two babies in two years, I’ve learned what exactly I think is essential for me and my babies. I also find that, being a minimalist mama has helped me easily decide what is really, trully necessary for a baby. In this post I’m going to share with you ten items I think are very essential for a new little one. Every mama will have diffrent ideas of what they find essential, and with each baby these things may change, so finding what works for you and your baby is best. Here are my minimalist baby essentials:

1. Zipper Sleepers (my main minimalist baby essential)

Minimalist Baby Essentials: Zipper Sleepers

Zipper sleepers are my main essential when I have babies. I personally have fallen in love with the Burts Bees Baby brand of sleepers. They are made of organic cotton, are super affordable, and have the cutest prints. I typically like to own between four and six sleepers. Especially, in the newborn phase with all the blowouts and spit up. I have learned that I don’t like to fuss over all of the tops, bottoms, onesies, etc… Personally, I find it super simple to just throw a sleeper on my baby and go on with my day.

2. Swaddle Blankets

Swaddle blankets have become a favorite of mine when it comes to minimalist baby essentials. These are perfect for keeping things simple! I personally love to swaddle my babies with these, but they also work great for nursing covers, spit up rags, carseat covers, etc… These muslin swaddle blankets from Mushie have become my absolute favorite, ranging from calming neutrals to dark earth tones. I think owning around three or four of these would be a good minimal amount.

3. Diaper Bag

Minimalist Diaper Bag

Owning a diaper bag is a for sure essential if you have babies. You could definitely just use a back pack or large purse if you wanted. I personally love a backpack style diaper bag. Especially, now that I need my hands free now more than ever. Being able to throw the diaper bag on my back, while grabbing a toddlers hand or carrying a carseat, makes everything a heck of a lot easier. This Land Diaper Bag on Amazon is the cutest and would work perfect for any man or woman carrying it.

4. Baby Wrap/Carrier

Solly Baby Wrap

I have become a true fan of wearing my babies in wraps and carriers. As a mama who had two under two for a season, wearing my newborn helped a ton when I needed my hands free to care for my one year old. Solly Baby has the softest, stretchiest baby wraps perfect to add to your minimalist baby registry.

5. Baby Swing

Minimalist baby swing

We have owned a Mamaroo with both babies, and it is a game changer! I know some babies don’t like to be put down and probably won’t like a swing, but my babies love it if they are swaddled in it. The Mamaroo is super slim and minimal, and that is why I love it. It doesn’t take up a lot of space, and looks super clean in any room.

6-8. Diapers, Wipes, and Diaper Rash Cream

Cloth diapers, wipes, and diaper rash cream

We love cloth diapering! I know its not for everyone, but it is so cost efficient and a lot easier than people think. So if you are planning to cloth diaper, these Muslin ones from Amazon would work great, we also love Alva Baby Cloth Diapers. We typically like to own about eight to ten cloth diapers. For baby wipes, Burts Bees Baby has some great all-natural baby wipes as well as diaper rash cream. You can also use cloth wipes too, they work just as good.

7-9. Crib, Mattress, and Crib Sheet (a for sure minimalist baby essential)

Minimalist Baby Essentials

You are for sure going to want a crib/bassinet for your baby, if you don’t plan on co-sleeping or co-sleeping very long. This gender neutral, minimal crib from Amazon would be perfect. You will also need a crib matress and crib sheet. I love Burts Bees Baby so of course I went with their crib sheets.

10. Pacifier

This is not at all essential for me, I certainly wish my babies would take a pacifier. But they just won’t, they gag like it has the biggest nipple or something, and believe me I’ve tried them all. I know for some moms, they are a for sure essential, even for the most minimal mom it can be. So thats why I’m adding it here. I am the type of mom who prefers a natural rubber pacifer. I have learned of the chemicals in conventional pacifiers, and found the Naturesutten brand to be the best.

Well those are my Minimalist Baby Essentials I personally think to be essential. I hope you enjoyed reading this post and found it helpful! Be sure to check out my previous post on my Minimalist Breastfeeding Essentials here.

Totally agree with these. You don’t need much else. Also, those naturesutten pacis are the BEST!

Love this list! My kids are all adolescents but I bet these tips are great for any expecting or young family who don’t want to drown in stuff but focus on the essentials.
